Why We’re Reducing Our Reformer Class Sizes– And Why It Matters
Reformer Pilates has quickly become a popular way to move, strengthen and rehabilitate – and we’re thrilled to see more people discovering its incredible benefits. But with its growing popularity, something important is being lost in the crowd: quality care and close attention. At Physio Pilates New Plymouth, we’ve made the conscious decision to reduce our Reformer class sizes to a maximum of 5 clients per class. It’s a bold move in an industry that’s trending toward bigger and busier, but here’s why we believe smaller is better – for your body, your safety, and your results.
Reformer Pilates Is Powerful … When Done Right
The Reformer is an amazing tool for rehab, athletic training, and general movement health. But like any tool, it needs to be used correctly to reap the rewards. Springs, straps, a moving carriage, body positioning, breathing – there’s a lot going on. In larger classes, there simply isn’t time for adjustments, hands-on guidance for positioning, or tailor cues to your unique needs. At worst, this can lead to injury. At best, it limits the effectiveness of your session and isn’t training the intention of the movement.
Pilates isn’t just about movement – it’s about mindful, precise, and intentional movement. The attention to detail is what attracts Physiotherapists to teach this style of exercise. We advocate better biomechanics and a lot of the exercises we teach in class are what we are giving to our Clinic patients. & we recommend our Classes as a great tool to assist in your recovery as its tailorable and modifiable to everyone when done with an experienced Instructor.
In smaller classes, we can provide individual corrections, real-time support, and exercise modifications suited to your level of strength and ability. This is especially important for beginners or those returning to movement after injury, birth, or surgery. You’ll never be left wondering if you’re “doing it right.” We’re right there with you – every rep, every exercise. Our personalised approach is really effective for those wanting to move better (& not just leaving you to keep up with the crowd).
We see our change as a safer, smarter way to move. We see clients with a range of needs – from complex pelvic floor conditions to persistent back pain. These are not issues to “push through” in a crowded room. In our intimate classes of 5 or fewer, we can supervise closely, offer hands-on assistance, and make sure every movement is performed well and adjusted for your bodies needs. Not just that, we know every one of you personally and create a supportive, uplifting community that empowers you to look after your health.
More Care, Less Chaos
Reducing our class sizes isn’t a business decision – it’s a values decision. We are Health Professionals who believe in delivering quality care and connection. The smaller the group, the more we can focus on you, which is what truly makes a difference in your health outcomes. We’d rather have fewer people in class to provide a higher quality than pack out a room and hope for the best.
This isn’t just exercise. This is your recovery, your wellness, your strength, your body. Whether you’re navigating chronic pain, returning from birth, or simply looking to move better and feel stronger, we want your time with us to count.
With smaller Class sizes you’ll feel seen, supported, and safe. And were proud of this conscious decision and the difference it will make for you.
