Frequently asked questions

  • Cancer rehab is individualised physio care that targets treatment side-effects and helps you return to daily life with more strength, mobility and confidence. We use gentle, evidence-based exercise, hands-on treatment and education to ease pain/tension, manage fatigue, support lymphoedema, and improve function so you can get back to the things you enjoy.

  • Your Cancer Rehab Physio will take a detailed history, screen for red flags, and assess posture, mobility, strength, scars/cording, swelling and fatigue. Together we’ll set goals and start a gentle plan—typically a mix of home exercises, breath/postural work, and hands-on treatment where appropriate.

  • ACC generally doesn’t cover cancer-related conditions. However, charitable funding is often available: the Breast Cancer Foundation funds physiotherapy for eligible clients, and PINC & STEEL Foundation supports a range of cancers (e.g., bowel, prostate). We can guide you through applications. Private payment and some health insurers may also contribute—check your policy.

No referral is required—book directly. We’ll liaise with your medical team if needed.

  • Done right, it usually helps. Short, paced sessions with breath work and low-impact strength are proven to reduce cancer-related fatigue over time. We’ll start small, progress slowly, and prioritise your energy for what matters most.
